Literature in the Algerian EFL Bachelor of Arts degree: Reading Literature

چکیده

Given the acknowledged and undeniable advantages of literature in language education, it has been integrated into EFL curricula for undergraduate students as an essential subject. In Algerian English departments before reform introduced last two decades (the Licence, Master, doctorate system), used to have a privileged status terms number courses classes or tutorials. However, after reform, importance lion’s share that Bachelor Arts course regressed favor more specialized subjects. Such only worsened state art teaching, which was already deplored according will be cited studies. This article aims at pointing primary defects malfunctioning first-year by answering question: what are main flaws course? order answer this question, starts with review whole package, i.e., objective, content, methodology, assessment. More importantly, go beyond mere evaluation criticism, ends suggesting alternative adopts task-based teaching methodology. The proposed attempts overcome observed weaknesses inefficiencies actual matching assessment students’ needs aptitudes.
